CNN reported on <a href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2021\/11\/12\/tech\/robot-automation\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">record-breaking North American robot hires<\/a>. And Bloomberg explored how <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2021-11-06\/rise-of-the-robots-speeds-up-in-pandemic-with-u-s-labor-scarce#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">labor shortages are driving automation adoption<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the largest industrial robots in the world was showcased in San Antonio Texas in November. The 72-foot tall, 67-ton &#8216;Xyrec&#8217; robot is designed to strip paint from airplanes, work that was previously carried out manually. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Xyrec.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"949\" height=\"629\" src=\"https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Xyrec.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4797\" srcset=\"https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Xyrec.png 949w, https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Xyrec-300x199.png 300w, https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Xyrec-768x509.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 949px) 100vw, 949px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Traditionally, it takes more than a dozen workers about 11 days to completely strip paint from a commercial aircraft. Credit: Nick Wagner \/ San Antonio Report<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, in other industrial robot news, Industrial robot maker Haber raised <a href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/tech\/funding\/industrial-robot-maker-haber-raises-20-million-in-series-b-funding\/articleshow\/87864260.cms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">USD20 million in Series B funding<\/a> with one of the company&#8217;s goals being to save over 400 billion litres of water in the next two years; OMRON unveiled what it says is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/omron-launches-worlds-fastest-ct-x-ray-inspection-with-new-vt-x750-v3-axi-system-301420660.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">world&#8217;s fastest CT-type X-ray inspection device<\/a>; a new report from the UK&#8217;s Manufacturing Technology Centre highlighted the need to <a href=\"https:\/\/zenoot.com\/articles\/mtc-report-highlights-need-to-speed-up-adoption-of-robotics-for-productivity-boost\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">speed up robotics adoption to provide a productivity boost<\/a>; ATI Industrial Automation unveiled its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.roboticstomorrow.com\/news\/2021\/11\/30\/ati-industrial-automations-new-qc-29-robotic-tool-changer-unlocks-productivity-for-smaller-robots\/17884\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">QC-29 Robotic Tool Changer<\/a>, designed for robots in the 25 to 35kg payload class; Trio Motion Technology launched a <a href=\"https:\/\/roboticsandautomationnews.com\/2021\/11\/16\/trio-motion-technology-launches-new-scara-robots\/47158\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">new line of SCARA robots<\/a>; and Robotics &amp; Automation News revealed its <a href=\"https:\/\/roboticsandautomationnews.com\/2021\/11\/22\/winners-of-the-robotics-and-automation-news-awards-2021-22\/47215\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2021 Award Winners<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&#8216;Ikea Bot&#8217; Updates Human Touch-Like Capabilities <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2018, researchers at NTU Singapore unveiled &#8216;Ikea Bot&#8217;, a remarkable automation system designed to assemble IKEA furniture. Credit: Eureka Robotics<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the team at Eureka Robotics, the new AI-based force control algorithm paves the way &#8220;for industrial applications that were previously very difficult or impossible to implement, such as handling and assembly of delicate, fragile objects such as optical lenses, electronics components, or engine gears.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Living Robots Can Now Reproduce<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While we&#8217;re on the topic of major upgrades, remember the Xenobots, the robotics research sensation of 2020? Dubbed the world&#8217;s first &#8216;living robots,&#8217; the tiny (&lt;1 mm, 0.04 inches) Xenobots, which are made from frog stem cells, were shown to be able to move, work together in groups and self-heal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In November, the research team behind the radically new type of robot, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pnas.org\/doi\/10.1073\/pnas.2112672118\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">unveiled<\/a> Xenobots 3.0, with one particularly noteworthy new functionality &#8211; Xenobots can now reproduce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\nhttps:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=z7l6twLzIVE\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Robots As Trusted Dancing Partners <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Researchers at Georgia Institute of Technology have been exploring trust paradigms in human-robot interaction with the aim of developing the human-robot collaborations of the future.
