More below (after a look at December&#8217;s news) but before all that\u2026 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong><em>All of us at <\/em><\/strong><em><strong>RoboDK would like to wish our <\/strong><br><strong>customers, partners, and friends around the world <\/strong><br><strong>a prosperous and automation-filled 2022! <\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Industrial Robot Brief<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There were some exciting numbers in the International Federation of Robotics&#8217; eagerly-anticipated annual <a href=\"https:\/\/ifr.org\/free-downloads\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">World Robot Report<\/a>, which was released in December. Key headlines from the document: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>robot density worldwide in 2020 (126 robots per 10,000 employees) is almost a doubling of 2015&#8217;s numbers (66 per 10,000) <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>robot density in China has more than quadrupled from 49 in 2015 to 246 in 2020 <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Japan delivers 45% of the global robot supply<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Download the 2021 World Robot Report <a href=\"https:\/\/ifr.org\/free-downloads\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"FACTS about INDUSTRIAL ROBOTS - worldwide 2021\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/lgTvr-KJzIM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, in other industrial robot news, Bangalore-based Pace Robotics <a href=\"https:\/\/www.therobotreport.com\/pace-robotics-raises-seed-funding\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">raised an undisclosed seed investment<\/a> from Pidilite Industries Ltd. for an equity stake of 19.5%; a Bloomberg <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/opinion\/articles\/2021-12-07\/industrial-robots-are-a-boon-but-they-are-creating-a-crisis-of-masculinity\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">opinion piece<\/a> suggested that while industrial robots are a boon, they are also creating a &#8216;crisis of masculinity&#8217;; researchers at Nara Institute of Science and Technology <a href=\"https:\/\/techxplore.com\/news\/2021-12-soft-jig-general-purpose-robots.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">unveiled a soft jig<\/a> that may improve the performance of general-purpose assembly robots; UK-based researchers showcased their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.therobotreport.com\/researchers-develop-new-approach-for-handling-nuclear-waste\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">research<\/a> into improving nuclear waste-handling through human-robot collaboration; READY Robotics announced a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.todaysmotorvehicles.com\/article\/ready-robotics-futura-automation-forgeos-solutions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">partnership<\/a> with Futura Automation; and ABB unveiled two new <a href=\"https:\/\/roboticsandautomationnews.com\/2021\/12\/14\/abb-unveils-two-new-omnicore-robot-controllers\/47671\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">OmniCore<\/a> robot controller models. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Two New Bio-Inspired Gripper Designs <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Researchers at Stanford revealed &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/news.stanford.edu\/2021\/12\/15\/robotic-hand-gecko-inspired-grip\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">farmHand<\/a>&#8216; a gripper that incorporates gecko-inspired materials and can handle delicate food items such as fruit as well as lift heavy objects.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"From Grasping to Manipulation with Gecko-InspiredAdhesives\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/km_M9KyTpsY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, a team from China&#8217;s Shanghai Jiao Tong University revealed a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedaily.com\/releases\/2021\/12\/211221133513.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">new soft gripper design<\/a> based on the ability of tentacles and elephant trunks to grasp delicate objects safely. From business headlines (such as John Deere&#8217;s acquisition of Bear Flag Robotics) through Mars-based robot helicopters to self-driving cars, these stories reflect the robot news that resonated most with readers in 2021. <br><br>Elsewhere: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Robotics 24\/7 asked an impressive selection of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.robotics247.com\/article\/robotics_leaders_look_back_2021_challenges_accomplishments\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">robotics thought leaders<\/a> to reflect on the challenges and accomplishments of 2021<\/li><li>Diginomica&#8217;s Chris Middleton reviewed the year in &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/diginomica.com\/2021-review-ai-automation-robophobia-and-how-cure-it\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">AI, automation [and] robophobia<\/a>&#8220;, and<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.designboom.com\/technology\/top-10-robotic-and-artificial-intelligence-stories-of-2021-12-09-2021\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">designboom<\/a> revealed its Top Ten Robotics &amp; AI stories for 2021 <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2022 Predictions <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>ZDNet&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/article\/are-robots-here-to-stay-amid-staff-shortages\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Greg Nichols<\/a> predicts that 2022 will see machine vision with learning capabilities provide new application possibilities for roboticists, from vision-based drones and robotic harvesting to robotic sorting in recycling and warehouse pick &amp; place.
