Our team is always working to make your robot programming experience better and easier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since the start of 2022, we&#8217;ve introduced a bunch of new RoboDK updates to the software that you might not have seen yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Some RoboDK updates have been huge. The announcement of our brand new <a href=\"https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/robodk-web\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">RoboDK for Web<\/a> is big enough that it had its own launch campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But, we&#8217;ve also made plenty of smaller updates to RoboDK that will make your life just a little bit easier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are 5 of the top new updates we&#8217;ve made recently, plus 9 smaller bonus updates\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"1-improvements-to-the-fusion-360-and-inventor-plugins\">1. Improvements to the Fusion 360 and Inventor Plugins<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>First up, we&#8217;ve been making some improvements to the plugins for Fusion 360 and Inventor. These changes bring the plugins up to date with the latest versions of these popular CAD\/CAM packages from Autodesk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our plugins allow you to seamlessly integrate your product design workflow into your robot programming. They mean that you don&#8217;t even have to leave your favorite CAD\/CAM environment to program the robot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These updates include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Fixed importing of 3D models from Fusion 360 when using STEP and IGES files.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Better install of the RoboDK plugin for Inventor 2022<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You can <a href=\"https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/robot-plugin-fusion-360\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">read about the Fusion 360 plugin here<\/a> and about <a href=\"https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/inventor-plugin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the Inventor plugin here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/RoboDK-Add-in-for-Fusion.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/RoboDK-Add-in-for-Fusion.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5174\" srcset=\"https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/RoboDK-Add-in-for-Fusion.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/RoboDK-Add-in-for-Fusion-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/RoboDK-Add-in-for-Fusion-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"2-brand-new-shiny-online-robot-library\">2. Brand New Shiny Online Robot Library<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/robodk.com\/library\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">RoboDK Robot Library<\/a> is the hub of all the hundreds of robots that our software supports. It also includes an impressive selection of robot tools and accessories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the Robot Library, you can:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sort the robots by manufacturer, type, and property.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Compare the key properties of every supported robot.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Download the ROBOT file to open in RoboDK.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Until recently, the library was functional but it didn&#8217;t look as good as it could have. We have now updated the Robot Library and added some extra features to help you get even more from this tool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>New features we&#8217;ve added include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A cleaner, easier to use interface with more responsive selectors.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The ability to open the robots directly in RoboDK with the new Open button.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A separate information page for each robot including common applications with the new View button.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Direct access to the robot in <a href=\"https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/robodk-web\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">RoboDK for Web<\/a> with the new 3D View button.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Check out the <a href=\"https:\/\/robodk.com\/library\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">new Robot Library online here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"3-python-api-restructured\">3. Python API Restructured<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Although RoboDK&#8217;s graphical interface is popular, a lot of customers use RoboDK via the API. This allows you to easily integrate robot programming into your own programs and code.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have just restructured the whole Python API for the first time in years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>RoboDK Version 5.4.1 is mostly a restructuring of all our Python modules to prepare for future updates to the software (yes, there are many more exciting updates to RoboDK in the pipeline!).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Changes include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <em>robolink<\/em> module is now <em>robodk.robolink<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <em>robodk<\/em> module is now split into <em>robodk.robomath<\/em>, <em>robodk.robodialogs<\/em>, and <em>robodk.robofileio<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The new changes are all backward compatible. This means you can keep your current Python scripts as-is for both past and future versions of RoboDK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the changes will not be forward compatible. When you start to use the new semantics, your scripts will no longer work with previous versions of RoboDK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have also updated <a href=\"https:\/\/robodk.com\/doc\/en\/PythonAPI\/robodk.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the Python documentation<\/a> to reflect these new changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/RoboDK-Python-Robot-Programming.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"483\" src=\"https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/RoboDK-Python-Robot-Programming.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5173\" srcset=\"https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/RoboDK-Python-Robot-Programming.png 1024w, https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/RoboDK-Python-Robot-Programming-300x142.png 300w, https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/RoboDK-Python-Robot-Programming-768x362.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"4-improved-apps-and-app-loader\">4. Improved Apps and App Loader<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We have packed a lot of functionality into RoboDK. There are <a href=\"https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/powerful-robodk-features\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">many features that you might not ever use personally,<\/a> but that are vital for someone else&#8217;s robot setup. This is what makes RoboDK so flexible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One way that you can add even more functionality to RoboDK is through the use of Apps and Plug-ins. The <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/RoboDK\/Plug-In-Interface\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Plug-in Interface<\/a> allows you to extend and customize RoboDK with your own code.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/RoboDK\/Plug-In-Interface\/tree\/master\/PluginAppLoader\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">App Loader<\/a> makes this step even easier. With it, you can quickly load code into RoboDK as if it was a plug-in. This gives you the ability to add custom buttons and actions directly to the RoboDK interface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have recently improved the App Loader and some of the existing Apps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"5-st-ubli-and-omron-post-processor-improvements\">5. St\u00e4ubli and Omron Post-Processor Improvements<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/robodk.com\/doc\/en\/Post-Processors.html#PostProcessor\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Post-processors<\/a> are at the heart of RoboDK. They convert your robot program into instructions that your robot model can understand and run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are constantly updating the post-processors to reflect changes made by robot manufacturers to their products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most recently, we have updated post-processors from:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.staubli.com\/en-gb\/robotics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">St\u00e4ubli<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/automation.omron.com\/en\/us\/products\/category\/robotics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Omron<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We have also improved the default post-processor sample that comes with RoboDK. This will be helpful if you are creating your own post-processor from scratch for a custom robot type.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Staubli-Robot-Sheet-Metal-Bending-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"622\" src=\"https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Staubli-Robot-Sheet-Metal-Bending-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5172\" srcset=\"https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Staubli-Robot-Sheet-Metal-Bending-1.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Staubli-Robot-Sheet-Metal-Bending-1-300x182.jpg 300w, https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Staubli-Robot-Sheet-Metal-Bending-1-768x467.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"9-other-small-upgrades-we-ve-made-recently\">9 Other Small Upgrades We&#8217;ve Made Recently<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are plenty of other small upgrades and improvements that we have made to RoboDK since the start of 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We&#8217;ve also made small improvements to these 9 aspects of RoboDK:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>&#8220;Build\/Modify Mechanism or Robot&#8221; wizard.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&#8220;Model Mechanism&#8221; menu.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Path and weld settings.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>3D navigation when using the 3D view toolbar.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Robot calibration parameter selection.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Behavior of Alt+Shift functionality.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Removal of the default auto-extraction for curves.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Allowed for negative values to start and end curves in Curve Follow projects.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Added an option to model parameter &#8220;d5&#8221; when building a 6-axis robot arm.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"a-quick-note-on-educational-license-changes-\">A Quick Note on Educational License Changes\u2026<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, we have a small announcement if you are using an educational license. If you are on such a license, we will have already contacted you about this, but in case you missed it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since January 1st, 2022, educational licenses are now subscription-based.
