That&#8217;s why we&#8217;re excited to share with you the new RoboDK updates that we&#8217;ve made as of May 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We&#8217;ve designed these updates to make robot machining, fabricating and all other robot programming tasks faster, easier, and more intuitive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since <a href=\"https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/5-new-robodk-updates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">our last product update in March,<\/a> we&#8217;ve added a huge 25 updates to the software to make RoboDK even better. That includes 7 bigger changes and a bunch of smaller ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Keep reading to see what&#8217;s new\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"2-improved-support-for-scara-robots\">1. Improved Support for SCARA Robots<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/scara-robot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SCARA robots<\/a> are a mainstay of many manufacturing businesses. They are often used in assembly and pick and place applications because of their high speed and precision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the time of writing, we support 70 SCARA robots from 19 manufacturers. In the past few years, we have doubled our support for SCARA robots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recently, we have improved our support for SCARA robots. A few of the changes we have made include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Improved program generation for FANUC SCARA robots.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Changing the name of the official FANUC post processor to Fanuc_R30i.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Improved support for SCARA robots all round.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Scara-robots.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"575\" src=\"https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Scara-robots-1024x575.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5312\" srcset=\"https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Scara-robots-1024x575.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Scara-robots-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Scara-robots-768x431.jpg 768w, https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Scara-robots-1536x863.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Scara-robots-2048x1151.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"3-improved-kuka-drivers\">2. Improved KUKA Drivers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We are always looking for ways to improve our software and make your life easier. When a robot manufacturer updates their products or makes unexpected changes, we take those into account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We do this by making updates to RoboDK so it will elegantly handle any situation thrown at it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We&#8217;ve made some slight changes to our KUKA drivers. These will make it easier for you to program KUKA robots if you are using these features:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The recent changes include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Improved KUKA driver to get\/set variables without disconnecting from the robot controller.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>General improvements to all our KUKA drivers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Improved KUKA SRC import script to support external axes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"4-added-support-for-comau-nodal-language\">3. Added Support for Comau Nodal Language<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We have just included an exciting new update if you are using Comau robots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.comau.com\/en\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Comau<\/a> is a popular robot manufacturer based in Italy. Their robots are programmed with the PDL2 programming language, which is a Pascal-like language specific to their robots. Comau offers several teach pendants and some different programming approaches. Until now, RoboDK&#8217;s support has centered on their C5G teach pendant with the normal PDL2 programming approach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One feature of PDL2 is an alternative node-based programming approach. We have now added support for this approach. You can find it in RoboDK as a new <a href=\"https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/robot-post-processors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">post-processor<\/a> for Comau. This provides more configuration options than our existing post processor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Programming_a_Robot-scaled.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Programming_a_Robot-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3929\" srcset=\"https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Programming_a_Robot-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Programming_a_Robot-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Programming_a_Robot-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Programming_a_Robot-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Programming_a_Robot-2048x1152.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"5-improved-mechanism-creation\">4. Improved Mechanism Creation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>At RoboDK, we always prioritize flexibility and wide support for different robots. Our software already natively supports hundreds of robot models from dozens of robot brands, which you can find in <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/robodk.com\/library\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">our Robot Library<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But you don&#8217;t need to use one of the already-supported robots. You can use absolutely any robot mechanism with RoboDK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s easy to <a href=\"https:\/\/robodk.com\/doc\/en\/General-Create-Mechanism-Robot.html#ModelRobot\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">create your own robot mechanism<\/a> in the software using our Mechanism Wizard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have recently made a few changes to the mechanism creation. These changes include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Improvements to the generic 6 DO<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>F mechanism kinematics.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Setting the default new mechanism to be a 1-axis turntable. This makes sense because one of the most common type of mechanism people want to add is a simple <a href=\"https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/auxiliary-axes-offline-programming\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">external axis<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"6-improved-tools-for-robot-machining\">5. Improved tools for Robot Machining<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/robot-machining-simplify-life\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Robot machining<\/a> is an application that&#8217;s rising in popularity right now, and for good reasons. It is a great way to expand your machining capabilities, increasing the size and complexity of your machining tasks in a very cost effective way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have included several extra tools in the latest version of RoboDK to make it even easier than it already was to create machining paths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Updates that we have made to our robot machining tools include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Improvements to RoboDK&#8217;s automatic curve extraction and modification tools.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The option to set current joints is now always visible in the robot machining menu.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Improved NC code import to allow custom program calls.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An added option to have more decimal places to create robots, allowing for more precision in robot machining.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Mold-CNC-Cutting.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Mold-CNC-Cutting-1024x683.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1108\" srcset=\"https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Mold-CNC-Cutting-1024x683.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Mold-CNC-Cutting-300x200.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Mold-CNC-Cutting-768x512.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"7-some-more-small-changes-for-easier-robot-programming\">6. Some More Small Changes for Easier Robot Programming<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We have also added a bunch of other small changes to make your life easier as you program with RoboDK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These changes include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Adding the option to align a reference frame using a right click, making this step even faster.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Improved options to run programs on the robot vs. the station. This can be useful for more complex robot programs with various moving parts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Added the option to align targets, making it easy to quickly align parts of your robot program.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Added the option to change the support of multiple references at once.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Improvements to the post processor selection menu.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Added the option to import Mecademic scripts, a specific type of program for this robot brand.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Improvements bulk editing program call instructions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Improved icons, making everything look a little neater.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Officially added the plugin to attach a part to a robot link (PluginAttachObject)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"1-improved-the-matlab-api-and-further-improved-python-\">7. Improved the Matlab API (and further improved Python)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier this year, we completely <a href=\"https:\/\/robodk.com\/blog\/5-new-robodk-updates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">refactored our Python API.<\/a> These changes set up the programming interface for future updates of the software and make it even more intuitive to program your robot with Python.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, we&#8217;ve also improved the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/robodk.com\/Matlab-API\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Matlab API!<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Matlab is an extremely popular software tool in data science and robot research applications. It includes powerful features to analyze and optimize your robot designs. It uses an off-the-shelf linear gauge to calibrate the robot&#8217;s tool center point (TCP).
