We're developing a robotic cell covering roughly 300 square feet, using a FANUC M-900iB robot mounted on a linear rail. Calibration will be performed using our RoboDK Calibration license.
For large-volume calibration, is there a significant advantage to using a laser tracker over optical systems?

In general, I would say that laser trackers have better accuracy over larger distances (when compared to optical systems).
What equipments are you comparing specifically? We can help you make the right choice.

We've looked into different solutions from API, Hexagon (Leica), and FARO. Based on our current understanding, we would likely need a laser tracker and an active target mounted on the robot’s wrist.
One system I’ve been looking into more closely is the API Radian laser tracker paired with the Smart Track Sensor active target. I'm continuing to gather details and compare capabilities before reaching out to the manufacturers for quotes and technical clarifications.

OK that looks good. All the trackers you mentioned are good options.
I would say that the active target is not essential. We have a script and an Add-in that can help you generate random targets that point towards the tracker.
