Curve arrow not oriented correctly - Surface pattern generator

#1
Hi,

I generate a zig-zag pattern on a cylinder using the Surface Pattern Generator, and some points on the curve are oriented the wrong way, you can see the attached picture. I am using the add-in Curve Editor to flip them which is a very long solution.

1- Is there a way to generate the arrows in the right direction from the first shot ? or at least, is there a way to filter them so I can flip them once instead of scrolling in the Curve editor, select them and then do the Flip Normals in the Transformation menu ?

2- By the way, is there a way that the Surface Pattern Generator generates zig zag path same distance between lines when the surface is not flat ? (Cylinders, spheres, cones,...)

Best regards

  1. The surface pattern generator projects the point to the surface of the object. Sometimes objects are imported with repeated surfaces, some of which may have an inverted normal.

You can try simplifying your object using the Simplify Mesh add-in or by reviewing the surfaces in your object (with the Color tool).

  2. While the Surface pattern generator does create the point in an "Euclidean space" (starting from a flat space) and projects them to the surfaces, you can modify the distance between points by right clicking on the curve and selecting "Set Point Spacing".

This would only work with the points connected to each other so you might want to consider this when choosing the direction of the pattern.
