First Multiaxis Attempt - Cannot reach all targets

#1
Hi guys,

I use Mastercam 2023 with the RoboDK Plugin and making my first attempt at machining using the 3-to-5 axis toolpath conversion for roughing. When I try the same part with the 3 axis version I dont have any issues, but once I attempt to do a 5 axis toolpath (and using NCI output) I cannot get the robot to reach all the targets, even though the robot is not near any axis limits.

No matter what smoothing or options I change in my toolpath, I cannot seem to get RoboDK to get further than about 13% through the toolpath. I've tried to allow the tool to rotate around the z axis by 60 degrees even in case that would help but it made no difference.

I've spent the last few days modifying the toolpath in Mastercam but to no avail and turning to the forums for some pointers as to what I could be missing or doing wrong.

Attached is my workstation with machining project.

I just want to update the thread with some information, I did write the finishing toolpath as a Unified Flow toolpath, with a constant revolve around the Z axis, which is set as the center of the turntable and the tool pointing towards the Z axis. However I still have problems getting it to do the roughing pass when the tool starts by pointing downwards to the turntable surface.

The Unified Flow finishing toolpath is able to reach all of those targets including doing under cuts no problem. Sometimes it still has issues reaching targets, but adjusting the "Smart Optimization" algorithm fixes it.

Are there any recommendations for knowing which preset to choose when making a robot toolpath?

Could you please share the NC/NCI file you created?
