I would like to be able to rotate the view with the mouse around the z axis.

Thank you for your feedback, however, I'm not sure I understand what you mean. I believe what you are looking for can already be done by unchecking this option:

• View-Align rotation (uncheck)

I would like to second this. With view align rotation unchecked you can rotate (from the perspective of a plane) in pitch and yaw, but not in roll.

Catia has this functionality and it helps A LOT with ease of use for viewing complex geometry
