XRC controller Serial connection Issues.

I have a motorman XRC controller with a UP50 robot, I can connect to the robot over serial RS232 but when I try to run a job the robot briefly shakes then stops, all buttons on the controller then become unresponsive. What am i missing?
I don't think transferring JBI JOB files to Yaskawa Motoman robots is supported for XRC controllers using RS232.
