Compensation of 5-axis with the calibration utility

#1
Hello!

I created a station with a customized 5-axis robot. It consists of 3 linear axes (X; Y; Z) and 2 rotatory axes (C around Z and A around X).

I want to use  the calibration utility from RoboDK for obtaining the measurements with a Leica laser tracker.

I can measure each point inside the calibration window, but for the "Base setup" and the "Tool setup" I cannot obtain the exact/calibrated position of the base of the robot (therefore the "Measurements Reference"), and the correct position of the reflector respect to the frange.

I already calibrated one robotic arm (6 axis) with this utility fron RoboDK, and the "Base setup" measurements and "Tool setup" measurements were so easy to define. Now that I have another type of robot, I always obtain a message like "measurements does not fit a circle".

How should I proceed now? Is there any way for obtaining the correct position of the "Measurement reference" and the position of the reflector respect to the flange?

Unfortunaly I cannot share my station due to privacity of the company.

I hope you can help me.

Thanks :)

Regards,
Marina

Unfortunately we don't support calibrating a 5-axis custom CNC. Robot calibration in RoboDK improves the accuracy for 6-axis robot arms.

At the shop we have ABB (The Best!!!), Motoman (Good), and Fanuc (Detroit wants four points-that's what you get), and one other...All of the systems except for the 'other' allow four-point calibration of the Tool Center Point (TCP) and external axis location using the machine. The ABB Bullseye laser TCP sensor is the best thing since the chocolate chip cookie. The 'other' system, was calibrated with a Leica laser tracker when it was installed, but recently we have seen a coordinate system drift in the system, measured points on a fixture that has not moved are now ~18mm off. I have a Creaform Metra Scan and C-track with dynamic tracking and the 'Calibration' license of RoboDK, is there any way I can calibrate by 5-axis gantry system?

Thanks for your feedback! Unfortunately, we don't support calibrating 5-axis CNCs or gantry systems. Only 6-axis robots.

However, since you mention ABB Bullseye TCP calibration, we developed TwinTool which helps calibrate a TCP automatically by constraining the tip of a tool against a plane. For this you also need a 6-axis robot or a 7-axis robot. You can find more information here:
