Importation limits

#1
Dear RoboDK Staff,

Is RoboDK designed to import also "heavy" CAD files?

For example, I'm trying to import  a file .step of 24 MB as assembly and I'm having problems... Is this kind of operations out of RoboDK's potentiality? If so, is there an (approximate) limit to the size of CAD files to be imported?

Thank you in advance

STEP and IGES formats are parametric files and when you import them into RoboDK they are converted to a mesh.

If the files are complex it might slow down the time it takes to load a 3D model. This depends on the size of the file, the complexity of the 3D model and your computer specifications.

To import STEP and IGES files better and faster you can reduce the quality of the mesh by following these steps:
  1. Select Tools-Options
  2. Select the CAD tab
  3. Increase the Linear/Angular accuracy (in mm and deg). You can set to 4.0 or higher for example.
  4. Reload the 3D model again to see the effect.
You can use an add-in such as the simplify mesh Add-in to RoboDK to simplify any the 3D model:

This will speed up simulations, the render time and optimize the file so it is lighter.
