Using RoboDK with an old Yaskawa XRC controller and a UP6 arm

I have a new robot to work with. Well not new, I have a good working Yaskawa UP6 arm with a XRC controller. I have had the arm for a long time,  now i finally have it powered  up. I have not seen any confirmed success running this old XRC control with RoboDK, something about the comm is RS232 only. I saw some thing that indicated partial connectivity.

Can anyone confirm if this arm  and controller can work with RoboDK to run a plasma cut or laser cut with DXF files?

You can test your setup with a Free Trial version of RoboDK.

RoboDK supports Yaskawa/Motoman controllers starting with the XRC model (RS232 communication also supported):

Yes, you can import DXF files directly to RoboDK.

You should not have any issues using a Yaskawa Motoman XRC controller. You should be able to generate JBI program files for your XRC robot controller.

You should also be able to load DXF files without issues to import curves and cut through the curves using a curve follow project.

thanks for the info. ok i am now looking for the IO info that is in use on the arm and i need to find out the comm port. it looks like robodk has rs232 ports 1 thru 200000 is that correct?

To connect to your XRC robot controller using RS232 you should enter the COM port in the IP/COM field.

If you are using a physical serial port on your computer you may need to use COM1 or COM2 as the COM port. However, modern computers don't have serial ports so you may need to buy a USB to Serial adapter. If you don't have one I recommend you to purchase a good quality one, otherwise you'll find strange communication issues. 

USB to Serial adapters are setup by Windows and you can find the correct port in your device manager. Usually serial ports don't go beyond 20.
